Just bought a new Kubota L3800 with 6 ft tiller. I plan on having a fair sized basic garden with tomatoes, squash, etc.

My questions are after tilling do I plant in rows on the flat surface that the tiller made or do I make a higher mound type row. If mound type planting is used how are the mounds formed? Should I leave enough space between the rows for weed control with the 6 ft tiller.

I'm located in NC if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance....

I don't make mounds, I know lots of people do though. What I do is till it, then to seed my taters i push a spade into the ground for a hole (8-12") and I've been successful. Is that necessarily the best way of doing things? No. Is it necessarily the wrong way of doing things? No. Here is a link for what I think you would need if you make ridges: Tractor Middlebuster or Potato Plow

We till and then make raised rows. Our property is low so we have to. I've got two young boys so that's my attachment. :). They make hillers or bedders that make a raised row. Check out everythingattachmnets website and look at the videos. I think a fella is Louisiana makes some videos, google Cajun gardener and you should find it.

It mostly on what area your in,--what type ground you have,---like how well it works up, how good does it drain, etc.!
here in central Il. we try to plow in the fall and hit it one time with the 72" KK tiller and plant right on the flat land!
You can leave space but remember the plants/vines will quickly fill in the rows leaving you with the need to do a lot of hand weeding or get a smaller walk behind unit to be able to keep weeding all season!
