New tractor , help me with operation?

Hello All! I recently purchased this tractor, which I believe is a 1970 or '71 MF 20 or 30 Industrial. It has a Perkins AD3.152 Diesel and a shuttleshift transmission. I believe it was optioned with a backhoe at one point due to the extra controls and remaining cylinders hanging off the back that seem to be quite twisted.

I am hoping that you all can ID it for sure so I can order manuals and get it fixed up! I rebuilt the injection pump and now it runs, but seems to have a leak from the #2 fuel line, as well as the loader lift arms, and the 3pt is very slow to lift. It would be great if someone could tell me what the positions do for the two lower control sticks on the transmission, as one seems to have something to do with the 3pt.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to TBN.....

The MF 20D&E models had that motor (AD3.152).

MF20C with backhoe had the D3.152. Not sure what the difference was.

Slow to lift could be related to low hyd. fluid or plugged filters. Tractor may have draft control as one of the levers you mention. Other lever could control the top / tilt cylinder on the back.

MF20C sounds good to me, thanks! Any luck with the other questions regarding stick operation? Sounds like the manuals are a week out. I think the three hydro levers are for the missing backhoe, but I'm not sure about the two sticks.

Looks as thought the fender valves may have operated an adjustable box scraper for road work. Quite common on this model tractor. pull up a you tube video of this and you will see.

Strong little tractors in their day.
The hydraulic top-link has seen better days (twisted). You could get that mounting bar straightened or cut off and replaced. (I do like those 'retro' levers with knobs on the fender valve. Save those if you can.
Yellow paint on everything suggests, what we call down here, a ''Rattle-can Refurb''.

I'm not too sure about the extension brackets between the ROPS frame and the top of the rear axle?? They look a bit 'dodgy'. :2cents:
Good Luck,
:wrench:

Little late but I think it's an MF40 with the hard nose around the radiator. I think the loader is a model 34 and the 20C didn't come with a 4 bar linkage loader or indentions in the loader lift arms. MF40 also had optional flat top fenders. Google MF40.

Jon, Can you tell me what 1, 2, 3 are for on this tractor? Low/High for the Shuttle Shift, thank you!

I thought this might have had a backhoe on it, but I will watch some videos with box blades. Any idea how they could have bent that plate? (Morbid curiosity)

Spanner, I'll take a closer look at the brackets, I thought they were factory.

I'll post a picture of the front-end later.

Thanks guys!

The more I look around, the more I think this might actually be a MF 30 or 40 variant. I wonder if I can exchange the manuals I bought... :(

If it's a 3 cylinder with a 9A serial number, it's an MF40. There was an earlier 2200 as well. Should have the casting date on the bottom of the oil pan to give an idea on year.
