New to the forum/ PTO frozen on Massey 135

Hello everyone, new to the forum. I have a Massey Ferguson 135 with a 3-cyl. Perkins gas motor.....I've read some other forums on here and everyone seems to be very helpful.

The problem I'm having is this: I was tilling with a 5' tiller yesterday and the PTO shaft got very hot and noticed a little smoking come off the shaft and shut it down. Now the shaft is frozen and when I try to engage it, it stalls the tractor. The PTO will engage but when you let the clutch out it stalls. I'm thinking the Bearings may have got so hot that they froze. How hard is it to change out and is it something that can be done by someone that is a novice on tractors? Any help at all will be highly appreciated...

Hi, and welcome!
Where exactly was the smoke coming from? The tiller end, or the tractor end? Did you disconnect the shaft and try to engage the pto?

Thanks for responding, I got it taken care of. The drive shaft on the Tiller had not been cut short enough and was putting extreme pressure back onto the PTO and the slip clutch that I had on the PTO which caused it to rub into the seal assembly and welded it's self to the seal. Got it all pulled apart and got the parts to put it back together. I got lucky on that one. Live and learn...Thanks everyone.
