Kubota MX5100 DT 4WD
Good Evening Folks,

I have just purchased a new MX5100 DT 4WD and have logged 14 hours thus far and have enjoyed every minute of it. I relied heavily on the information I gathered from this site in making my decision. I can't thank all the folks who have posted enough.

However, I do have one question. Yesterday, I went to the dealer to pick up a cutting edge for my FEL as well as a gallon of HYDO fluid (just in case). In speaking with him ref my up coming 50 hour service. When asking about changing the Hydro fluid, he said I did not have to but to check the filter. If I noticed any "large chunks" of metal, to bring the filter to him to inspect. Is there a potential problem I am not aware of or am I just being paranoid? This is my first tractor and I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks for any help in the matter.

I've never heard of "checking" the filter. I guess that you'll have to spin it off and look inside? All hyd. sys. need to be (oil) super clean but usually 500hr or so change. It might be worth just putting a new filter on at that point, cheap insurance!

Thanks. Maybe I'm just over thinking the statement. I know anything can happen to any make or model but I just wanted to make sure that no one had heard of any problem with this models hydraulic system.

I think there may be a strainer that is prone to capture any metal shavings. I am not certain about your larger model of tractor but the B series has said strainer (in addition to the filter).

Here's a pic (not very clear on the strainer) of the B7800. The strainer looks like a bolt-head that is part of the framework - 26mm head).

I think the manuals for both of my little B series tractors said to change the hydraulic fluid at 50 hours, and I did, but I also learned that some dealers only change the filter and check the strainers. I don't know about the bigger tractors, but my little ones had strainers on both sides and there was a small amount of shavings, but not much.

Thanks for the info. I will change out my hydraulic fluid at 50 to be safe. I will check into the manual again when I get home from work ref the strainer and if I have one.

Thanks again.
