new (to me) email scam

I get them via text messages all the time...

I got this text this morning, many for the last 1 1/2 - 2 weeks

just today I got 4 messages
All from Distribution Centre
All with the title "Track your package: 29194772"
All claiming I needed to click on a link because my package had been delayed
All from different wierd names at gmail.com
Anybody else getting this spam?

Must be early spring phishing season,

What I want to know is...how do they know all you guys are old.

Seems like it's the season where I get emails and snail mail offers from various outfits wanting to renew my biennial DOT certification and they all want various fees. Interestingly, it's not due until October and can be updated on the FMV (Federal DOT) website for free. Because anyone or entity with a DOT number is public knowledge, outfits can obtain not only the DOT number but the applicants physical address and email address.

Nothing but a scam. Why anyone would pay for something that is free, escapes me. One thing I don't do is give out my cell number to anyone, only our landline which has an answering machine on it. If they (scammers call) they get a pre recorded message and never leave a message themselves because scammer don't do that as a rule.
