Just a couple thoughts......

I would not worry about a little smoke out of a tractor that old. I'm confident the EPA regs were not as strict back when that tractor was new. I might keep an eye on the oil level for a little while, just to satisfy my curiousity..... but I don't think there is a problem there.

You are correct that the mower is a little big for that tractor, but if it were me, I'd probably keep the five footer. I used to have an 18 HP Yanmar (also approx 15ish @ the PTO) with a five foot Woods belly mower under it and it did really well. Yes..... when I let the grass go too long it would labor a little in the thick stuff, but 90% of the time it mowed full width no problem. I would add some suitcase weights to the front end though..... I think this will make the tractor handle better all around.

Agree. Can you change your mowing pattern to eliminate having to go up the hill and go across or down? Most definitely add some weight to the front.

The way our land is laid out I am pretty much stuck always going up hill at some point, but appreciate the idea.
When you say it is diesel and not really "smoke" what causes this and what do I look for? That is new to me so I am glad you all brought it up, never gave that a thought!

I'm no diesel engine expert, but what I've read on here is that it is unburned diesel fuel and is a normal byproduct of a hard working diesel engine. My brand new tractor does it, mine old one did too. So does my pickup.

Also does anyone know if there is a free downloadable parts book, manual, etc for this older model? I am not too sure if my oil light/overheat light are working and wouldn't mind trying to get them working just in case I have a problem at some point.

Thank you in advance!

Here is a link to some downloadable manuals Index of Kubotabooks/ The site was down when you first asked so I decided to wait till it came back up before posting it. Enjoy:)

Does anyone run chains on their 7200? Any recommendations? Thought they maybe good for tractor on our hills!

In my experience the 5 foot dimension isn't as important as the weight of the mower. For 10 years I used both a Ford 1210 with a 5' Caroni and a B7500 with a 5' Landpride. Both decks were RFM's with side discharge. Each deck worked well in that combination. I did try swapping them and it made a huge difference. The Kubota almost didn't notice the light Caroni deck, but the Ford (probably a closer match to your tractor) was controlled by the heavier Landpride deck.

Good point Chim!
The MF deck is big and solid, I would guess it is at least 600 pounds (don't really have a good way to weight it) but it could be even more. I think the weight is a big factor when added to my hills and lower HP. Even if each foot of deck uses 3 hp, the 5 footer is pulling 15 hp, then add the weight and I'm about at the max. That is why I was thinking that a 4 footer maybe a better option. My goal is to not push the tractor real hard and have it easy to mow with. I have a walk behind zero turn with sulky I cut with but my wife has no urge to use it and she wanted a small tractor to cut with. I really like this b7200 and figure it can be set up to be a safe solid mower for her.

I checked into a used 4' King Kutter finish mower this evening and ended up buying it - wow what a difference. No smoke, no laboring on the hill. It worked great. I still need to add some weight to the front because it is too light still but it is a lot better. I want to thank everyone who offered their advice and help!
Now to do a little paint and body work and get it looking like new!
Does anyone know is there a point when the injectors should be changed (kind of like anti freeze and spark plugs at 100000 miles on a car, etc) Also are they hard to change or expensive?

Also any thoughts on chains for the rear - thought it would add a little traction for a minor price.

Chains for grass? I use them on my 8N for snow removal. I would think they would tear up the grass, make for an uneven and bumpy ride, and the clinging noise would drive me nuts. What about a new or better set of turf tires? I have no traction problems with these turfs in grass, dirt, snow, and even light mud. Philip.
