Tractor
Ford Dexta 2000
Hello folks,

I'm not only new to the forums, but new to the world of tractors.
I recently bought my first real tractor. We don't have a farm, but I wanted something to play with and use on my 4.5 acres.
What I need to start with is to ask if the Ford tractors that were made in England were numbered differently than those in the states?
I was told that this was a 1962 Ford Dexta 2000. The tractor does have the decals that say this, but the numbers that I have found don't
really match anything that I can find online concerning serial numbers, etc.
What I have found is 5C05C then under that B _0719_ (first _ is either a blob in the casting or could be a poorly stamped 0, and the last _ could be a
0, 5, or a casting blob.) Next to this number is clearly C255. There are no stars nor diamonds before or after any numbers.
I am lead to believe that what I have is a Ford tractor 2000 series that was made in England and sent to Canada (there is a dealer's sticker on the
side of the hood that says Hannah Brothers, Ltd, Regina, Sask.)
From what I have researched so far, I have either something pretty rare, or else it is not a '62. The reason that I say this is that I have seen mentioned that
only a few gas powered Dexta/2000's were made in or around '62. My tractor is gas powered, but it is not a four cylinder. It is a three cylinder and has a
Holly carb.
The head lights are on the side of the grill and not in the grill, exhaust goes down and underneath, color is blue and wheels are white,
and the reflectors on the fenders say that they were made in England, if any of this helps.

The tractor has some blow-by, so I'm figuring that the rings are probably bad. So, I'm going to have to figure out what I have in order to get the right parts
for it. I hate to start buying a bunch of books if they won't really pertain to this particular tractor.

Any ideas on what this tractor really is?

Thanks!

Sorry this has gotten so long,

Hi, there. Welcome to TBN. Join the fun ;)
Your first assignment--post some photos of your tractor here on TBN so we can figure out what that thing really is.

Thanks for the quick responses.
I had to go and get new batteries for the camera. Figures, doesn't it?
I have taken several pictures of this old girl, and hopefully they will help. One of the pictures is a close up of the numbers at the rear of the starter. Not sure if they are clear or not.
But, if so, you will see why I have been confused. The pictures show the decals of both Dexta and 2000.
To answer Soundguy's specific questions: I see no hand brake on either side. Pictures will verify this. There are 8 lugs on the rear wheels hubs, and the rear wheels/tires are 12.4-28 on
11 inch rim 11-28.

Hopefully the pictures will help. I also have a lot of numbers that I have found that are cast into the axles, diff, transmission, etc. Even have a cast number on the bottom right (?) side of
engine. It is C5NE 6015 A T1. By the way, when I read something is on the left side of the tractor, is this looking from the seat or from the front of the tractor? Told you I was new.

Now I'm not trying to jade anyone's opinion here, but I realize that this is a probably a tractor built in England during the transition from there to the states, from Dexta to the 2000 and from
Fordson to Ford. I am almost certain that this machine at one time was in Canada. I read a small blip a couple of weeks ago that had two guys that commented on this transition time. One said that most of these transition tractors were diesels, with a few gas 4 cylinders. Then there was just a mention of the 3 cylinder gas engine and one guy said that as few as 50 may have been built, and the other guy said there may have been as many as 1200.
I have no idea where they are getting their info.

Thanks for your time, effort and knowledge.

that 2000 is a 65+ she's a 3 not a 4 cyl.

a tad on the rough side too.

hood agrees that she is pre 4-68

Agree. Cast shift cover dates it as a early pre-force Thousand series. Despite the decal saying Dexta, it is not what most of us would call a Dexta tractor, but simply a 3 cylinder 2000. Whatever posessed somebody at Ford to call the early 2000's "Dexta's" and early 5000's "Super Majors" has always baffled me. Both are vastly different from their predecesors with the Dexta and Major names.

OK guys, thanks for the time and expertise.
Now I have a few questions. Do you agree that the numbers on this old girl says that she came from England? B007195. Basildon, England.
And if that is true, and the English dated the same as we do, then this tractor was assembled on March 5th, 1965 on the afternoon shift?
I can't date her any later than that, none of the grill parts that I have looked up would indicate that. There is no plastic in the two piece grill.
I have no idea what the C255 number cast there means.
What you have told me is that this tractor is not so rare. The fact that I bought her to work with and not to turn into a parade tractor makes
that OK. I just didn't want to go the wrong direction with this tractor.
I know she is a little rough. I bought her, or should I say that I saved her from an old knothead that just left her out in the weather here in NW Ohio.
I plan to clean her up, repair, and repaint what needs to be done. I'll rebuild the motor if need be and take good care of this old tractor.
Since we have established her as a '65 to '67 3 cylinder, should I look for books and parts focused on those years and models.
I have a book that the previous owner gave me that have several tractors including 2000 4 cylinder. Obviously the wrong book!

Thanks again!
