New TN already malfunctioning-help?

There are two versions of a hand held diagnostic tool available. They plug into a connector and allow various diagnostic and service functions to be performed. There is a technician version and an owner version. I am not sure what functions the owner/operator version does NOT allow, but various voltage, switch, and calibration functions are possible with the unit I carry in the service truck, as well as retrieving and clearing stored fault codes. Current level software indicates the number of instances of a particular fault, and the number of engine hours ago the fault last occurred. Active faults can be retrieved visually from the dash panel, and a troubleshooting flow chart is printed in the TRANSMISSION section of the service manual (not electrical).

( To clarify Andy's comment, he is correct about the shifting sequence relative to the gearshift and shuttle lever. However, selecting a shuttle position prior to a gear simply throws a flashing amber lamp with a gear icon indicating a disabled transmission. The cure is as Andy described. However, there is no mechanism for the PowerShuttle system to physically move the shuttle lever to 'N'. The lever will remain in F or R until placed in N by the operator, unless it is randomly forced to N by pressure exerted on the lever boot by the plastic cowl, as experienced by a few tractors, among them the original poster here. Mechanically, the EHSS and PowerShuttle systems are very similar. Electronically, The PowerShuttle system is far more complex with more control inputs and failsafes built in. I am a very big fan of this system, some folks are not. )

Rick, I know for a fact that on my TN75D with 16x16 power shuttle, it I move the shuttle lever first and then engage the 1,2,3,4 lever in a gear, no forward or reverse motion occurs and the error light comes on (I think this is what you refer to as a disabled transmission). I have to move the lever to N and then reengage either Forward or Reverse to go anywhere.

Andy

That's VERY cool - do you know how much they run? One system I have now resides on a laptop and allows me to graphically look at data from every sensor, and allows me to re-curve various parameters (like when boost starts coming on and I need to start either increasing fuel pressure and pulse-width like crazy or start to ****** timing enough to keep things from fragmenting). Of course that's in the cars that I build - but who knows what I could manage to do with my tractor if it's inner workings were made available to me /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It would be great to be able to do things like customize the time it takes for the PS system to shift from reverse to forward, and re-set the electronically-locking axles. I'd reset them so that they will stay engaged a little longer and not automatically shut off when I'm coasting backwards downhill and positioning to get another load of mud that I want to push uphill.

Things that are controlled by software are so convenient - it doesn't take much physical effort modify the way they perform. The hard part is figuring out how the system works, and how the tech equipment works, but once you get past that, it's a blast to mess with things.

Done with my rant - on a Friday night, on a computer of all things...

What computer software are you using and what are the applications? Is it just OBD2 or more specific.

Derek,
The main system I use these days is from EASE Diagnostics - they're at this address: EASE Diagnostics . It's very cool stuff - it will give you the ability to look at real-time data from just about any and every data source in the system. The OBDII systems are the best, but they also have products that allow you to get into older data ports but you don't get anywhere nearly as many parameters.

To go a step further and re-program your PCM, you have to get some software specific to your manufacturer. It's generally not recommended to mess with the PCM programming unless you're sure it's not going to violate any emissions laws.
