Okay I lied...1st project will be a rear ballast...why even have atractor with no weight on rear?????

Need a barrel, drawbar and concrete....

then a fullcage, some bucket/grabber work etc.

this will be a long drawn out project, I just need a place to store it and the pictures

Congrats!!! She's a Beaut!!!! Keep us posted with your progress!!!

My Dad bought a new 4000 gasser in 1974.

You're probably gonna wish you had my FWD and I wish I had your FEL. :D

Down the road I could see a FWD version, just for the backside of property...this a heck of a step up from a garden tractor

so wifey said she needed dirt for a new flower bed...:stirthepot:

Hey at least I pulled out big roots....this should surprise her tonight when she gets home...or it may just piss her off with how much dirt is there

need to make a rear ballast this weekend and cut a few trees for next try...

Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000

Yeah, unless she wants an elevated flower bed you might have overdone it. Hard to control that enthusiasm!!! :)

it is like playing in a sandbox...but,better

she did want elevated, her plan was to buy block for boundary next weekend and then fill in with dirt...I just got the tractor before her block...:p

Good news is I was able to sleep in the house when she got home

She actually said "how in the heck are we going to spread that out?"

"ugh...with the tractor" :tractor:

"oh, yeah...okay"

Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000

Nice build. Very useable attachment. I built one a few years ago as a Winter Shop Project and use it more than I ever thought I would. :)

Heading to town for concrete, and then get mixer and figure out how to mix and pour straight into barrel?lso have to tape/plug holes that may leak

Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000

okay, 1 question?

At what point was McGyver Redneck?

so, remember when you were younger and someone had a brilliant idea?

and everyone convinced that "person" it was a good idea?

It normally ended with "here hold my beer"

How do you pour concrete into a 55 gallon barrel?

not by dang hand...so I grabbed ole ford and mixer, that is when the light bulb came on...went off; and came back on

20160318_150236_zpsgoop5wbl.jpg

so it actually went fairly good, my pants are not soaked with concrete and as far as I know...no Kittahs or puppies were harmed filling Ballast box

9 bags in and the barrel was very heavy so about 850 pounds as it sits

next project today....a rake....this may take a while...it's getting late and I do not have a torch or plasma cutter...

Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000

Looking good. Your patience are much better than mine to cutoff wheel those teeth.

As for the counterweight. Only thing I'd have done different would be to put the 3pt arms link lower. I'd only have wanted a couple inches of drop left on my 3pt when hitching up to the barrel. This gives you maximum lift height. Isn't an issue until you get on uneven terrain. Then you may drag your butt a lot. :)

Re: New project 1975 Ford 5000

Here's the best I've got now of the top link area. I think you are missing a critical part there.

I never even noticed the Beer. Don't ya know you aren't supposed to run dangerous equipment while drinking??? It's rare for me to post a scenery picture in my shop without someone noticing the Beer cans sitting in the background. :)

I was thinking you would dig a low section on the ground for the barrel to sit in. More tractor time. :D

The add-ons look good!
