Mornin Escavader and Rob,
Thanks so much for the kind words. Just like Rob, I followed in my Dads footsteps. He was in the trade his whole life and Im on year #34. Both my boys have graduated college but someday yes I will give my grandkids that toolmakers chest. Who knows what they will put in it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just thought you would be more interested in that than my rollaways, kind of something different for the thread /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lets keep our fingers crossed that I can get 7 more years out of my trade before the Chinese figure out what Im doing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Too late for me Scott,
I sold my plant to a medical company in 1996 and got out while the gettin' was good. Tried it again with my sons in '98 and ended up selling that too in 2003. Now I'm retired. I work by myself out of my garage when I want...no overhead...no employees...get to fire my customers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I just work on "stuff" mostly and a select few customers who won't leave me alone.

I guess the Chinese products will soon be of the quality that happened to the Japnese stuff. That's what you get when you share your technology to make it a "better world". Now guys like us in trades are paying for it. "No good deed ever goes unpunished" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In any case, I'll always have my tools and boxes. I hope to see more posts from others sharing their "stuff".

Guys like you two,are why America is technologically advanced ,over most nations.Im glad to heAR its not a dieing profession, your children are into it too.Us PLANERMEN will always need a good machinist to rely on.They might build our cars, machines, but we still got that raw material, called trees,at least here in NEW ENGLAND.iT will never be depleted in my life time,We will always need a shaft made,or fancy part,or have a head balanced,or bearing journals fixed.Us milwrights are sometimes patchers like me.MY TOOLS,DUCTTAPE,BIG HAMMER,WELDER /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
SCOTTY,you got all the great species of wood in there.I love birdseye.Back in the 80s i worked in a hardwood sawmill as a edger man. When we sawed WHITE MAPLE,if we got any birdseye,or curly maple,it was graded into the pallet pile /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gifiT WASNT KNOWN TO BE THAT POPULAR TIL THE 90S.nOW ITS WORTH BIG BUCKS.At one time i knew it was at 3000 dollars per thousand feet,im sure its much more, anybody know? I just happen to have a whole bunch of planed misc.width curly overhead in my barn.I bet its been up there for 15 years, someday i might build me something like you did,but it would be hard to top yours.

Wow, great thread. I'm a tool junkie myself. I definately need more tool box but I hate to spend the money on something that doesn't fix the machine. I noticed a couple pages ago someone has almost the same box but with a big side cab on it. I'll probably order the same one.

Andy
