A few months ago we built a small pond in the pasture where once it was just a mud hole from a nice spring. Well it's been only two months and the grass is growing in fairly well and everyone seems to be enjoying the pond.

Our two little Jacks could never let the horses have all the fun. They were in their glory.....

Nice pictures! Nothing like a little fun with the pets to make your day. How big is your pond? Thinking about trying that up here in Vermont.
Take care

Not real big. We took a small spring, dug the area between the trees out abot 6' deep and then made a dam to bring the water up til it was about 5' from the base of the existiong trees. It's about 50' across and just about round. Just the right size to keep the water clear and water the horses. The dogs think we built them a swimming pool and I'm not going to tell them any different.

Here's a full view of the pond to give you an idea how big it is and how we made it fit the tree line.

It has a bit of a bad case of algae going right now...

Very nice! I love spring-fed ponds, but I'm not fortunate enough to have any. When I was a kid, we had a pond with two springs up a slope from them. The water would trickle down to the pond and they were full of huge crawfish. Now I have two runoff ponds that dry up in the late summer to become mudholes. Oh well... The birds love the shallow water. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

For what it might be worth to you, the algae problem can be mitigated by adding oxygen to the water. A small fountain is a popular method where I live in SE Michigan.
