Now my wife won't have to hear me complain "we need a tractor." I just picked up a 1992 (but new to me) John Deere 1070 with 4WD, canopy, and 4-in-1 bucket. Only 1091 hours, runs crazy smooth and is ready to do some serious work. All this for an amazing $9500.

There are a couple of minor dings and a cracked corner on the canopy, but otherwise sound. Looking forward to getting some seat time this weekend.

I know, I know, I really don't have a tractor unless I post pics, so here you go:

Nice find. Glad to hear it, and hope we hear more about how you use it.

Congratulations on a nice find.
You will be able to get some things done now.:D This is very similar in size to my 820 canopy tractor but alot newer (mine is a 1973). These are good for lots of jobs around your place, you will wonder why you waited so long to get one.

Here's a pic of my 820,

I've got to pick up a draw bar this week...along with a few other goodies. The list is already starting to grow.

The 820 has just over 1600 hours on it, so minimal use before I bought it.

True story, the original owners were up in their years when they purchased the tractor. Upon their death the ranch and equipment was left to the son and he had little interest in the tractor. A friend of mine has it in his shop for repair or sale and tells me " you know Tate he don't care about the tractor he can get to the bar room alot faster in his pickup." The tractor had only seen occasional use all the paint was weathered in the desert sun but the sheetmetal was straight, the drawbar and hitch points showed little signs of use, tires had lots of tread but were cracked. Motor ran well but the clutch was shot from trying to pull start the tractor. So I bought it for $3500 and installed a new clutch, new fluids, hoses and belts. Used it all summer then restored it in the fall of 1997. It has been a good tractor for me.

Perhaps faster, but not with as much style!

Yeah it was kinda funny you had to know the guy.

I think I would use that 1070 for the summer, change out fluids, fix leaks if any, make sure it has all the mechanicals working then fix the dings and canopy. Fix it up in the fall and have a "new tractor".
