Hey All-

So, I just picked up a 1994 L2650 with 480 hours on it and I have a few questions.

I paid $6000 for the tractor and a 6' blade. I felt that was a pretty decent price, right? It's in pretty good shape for an 18 year old tractor (some worn paint here and there, everything else looks pretty good).

The only problem I've noticed is that the throttle lever only stays in position up to about 1800 rpm... If I get any higher it falls back to the 1800 rpm mark. It will stay at higher rpms with the pedal throttle or me holding the hand throttle. I assume this will just take some adjustments a nut or two beneath the throttle lever?

The tractor has turf tires that are in decent shape. What can I expect to get for those if I sell them? Roughly, what would a new set of ag tires/rims cost me?

This thing is 29 hp... ya think I can pull a two bottom plow in loamy soil that was worked last year?

There is a mark on the tach around 2400 rpm for "540 PTO." Where would the mark be for the 1000 rpm pto? In other words, what rpm should I run a finishing mower at? Or are there more factors than that?

Any services I should do right off the bat? Thanks!!!

Andy

Sounds like you did good on the tractor. Now you need to get the owners manual. It is available for $20 on line. You may also want to get a service manual which is also available on line. These will answer your questions correctly and even give you pictures. Having said that I would change all the fluids and filters and grease the machine. By the time you do that you will have looked the machine over very well and have a good idea if it needs anything else like belts and hoses. As to what fluids to use, you are back to the owners manual. Good Luck and enjoy your new toy.

I have a 90's L2500 which is it's little brother and can vouche for it being a great little tractor. Mine originally came with Turfs also and I ended up buying a used set of ags on craiglist for 550 dollars (dealer quoted me about 1100 dollars for wheels, tires, and ballasting the rears) You should be able to get about 500 used for the Turfs or see if a dealership will allow you to use them for a credit on some new ones being such low hours on them.

The throttle lock should be just a couple of bolts to tighten or maybe have a friction disc. I have on my tractor and to be honest I hardly ever use the thing because my tractor is not live PTO so as soon as I depress my clutch the PTO disengages so I generally operate at 2400 RPMs but engage at a much lower one to help lessen shock through the driveline. I'm almost certain the tractor does not have a selection to go from 540 to 1000 RPM. It's usually only available on larger Ag tractors. Most CUT implements are designed to work at maximum efficiency around 540 rpms.

Your tractor should handle a double bottom moldboard 14" or less without any issues. I have a single bottom 14' moldboard plow and can honestly say that is the one implement that I wish I would have gone the upsized on. If it is already been tilled you might want to look at going with a 6.5 foot disc instead.

As for services my one word of advice from experience is to remove the screen in front of the radiator and thoroughly clean the screen and radiator with compressed air. It's usually not too much of an issue but when the tractor is working hard pulling a disc or running a 6 foot bush hog it tends to run hotter and I've had my temp pinned before on my tractor from debris buildup in the cooling fins of the radiator.

Congrats hope you enjoy you "new" Kubota as much as I have mine. Feel free to post any more questions you might have.

Kubota originally mated the LA450 loader with the L2650. Best thing to do is call a Kubota dealership/service center and see if they still manufacture a loader to fit it. Odds are that if they do not make the LA450 anymore that they probably have something that will fit.

Another place to research is to check out Woods aftermarket FEL. They make a great product that is standard for many manufacturers and odds are they might make one as well.

In all honesty you could probably even buy a used loader that didn't even match the model of tractor and have a reputable welding shop fabricate the bracing to the frame of the tractor.

Do some calling or emailing and get some quotes to see what it would cost or even if they can do it. It's going to require a little legwork and research on your end.

Welcome to the forum

I have a 2001 L2650 with a woods fel. I bought it used with the loader, ( 210 hours ) ! Since a Kubota loader is scarce, that explains the woods fel. The fel works good, but is awful slow. I pretty much only use this tractor for finish mowing as it is a straight gear drive, but it is a great little tractor. I'll post a pic , maybe you can figure out the woods fel model.View attachment 349208

The older L kubotas' can hold up to a ton of abuse. I have never had any issues with my L2500 w/ LA450 loader. I'd only recommend loaded tires and a counterweight of some sort on the 3pt. Mine has loaded tires and without a heavy implement on back there are times it still feels quite light in the rear. Never had any issues lifting a full bucket but I can stall the loader on breakaway force trying to dig out 300 pound rocks out of the ground on occassion.
