New Owner of 1959 International 460 Utility with wide front end and Loader

I've recently acquired this tractor that sat for well over 10 years in a carport. Put in a new battery, fresh fuel, rebuilt carb, complete tune up, replace hydraulic fluid and got it running. We had a slow leak of fluid near the rear axle but after losing maybe 3 quarts (over 2 week period), it stopped. The loader still seems to be working fine. Since day 1, the pump has a 'humming' sound. Any thoughts or advice on this machine is greatly appreciated.

Does this tractor have the torque amplifier (hi low)? Should be a lever on the right side.

My dad had one of these that was included in a small acreage he bought in 1968. Rebuilt the engine because we miss diagnosed a knocking sound, the crank was hitting the oil pan. Fixing the dented oil pan was all that was needed but we went ahead and rebuilt it anyway. Plenty of power but not much traction as I remember, the 6 cyl motor and front end were heavy. Hated the double hitch arms where the lift arm and sway bar both had to be hooked together on a pin. A quick hitch would be a real benefit on this tractor.

This tractor would be okay for pto work such as tilling and brush mowing but was lousy for discing. Of all the tractors we ever had it was my least favorite.

Good morning Jenkins...Yes, it has the torque amplifier but ours is on the left side. I'm surprised of the power it has in the loader...I had a big stump that was on my burn pile for about a year (didn't burn as I had hoped). My Kubota L3800 couldn't lift it off the ground but the 460, had no trouble at all.

The 460 has the 'fast hitch' but all of my current implements are 3-pt. Can you help me with how to use the Pat's Easy Change system on the fast hitch? Right now, it has a bar-hitch (see attached pic). Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I think you would be better served to use a quick hitch on your tractor. Reason being the quick hitch ties the lift arms together and I think this is needed in this case. I don't claim to know anything about the IH fast hitch either but looking at your picture I don't see sway blocks or sway bars on both sides.

The hydraulics were good on this tractor as you have found out. Twelve gpm is typical today but better than most other tractors fifty five years ago. The 460 in all fairness is a 60 hp tractor so it is quite a bit more tractor than the L3800 not surprised it can out lift it.

Hi Jenkins...when I click on your link for quick hitch, it takes me to the Pat's Easy Change System. Is this what you think would be better served on my 460? I've been watching some video's of folks with the Quick Hitch's...I think that is probably what I really need.

THat is a sales link/ploy by the administrator. Look at a Deere Imatch with the frame to mount on the 3ph. There are several other brands that work well too. If you don't have the swivel ball ends for your tractor you may have to fabricate an attachment point on each side.

In some ways it was a modern tractor for its day and had some good features. My biggest problem was the lack of traction and the heavy front end.

Thanks for your reply....I'll look into the Deere Imatch, as mentioned.

I've not used the tractor enough yet to determine about the traction. I'm used to my 4X4 Kubota so I pretty much go anywhere with that.
