After reading MANY posts on this forum, I recently purchased my first tractor... a 2003 NH TC30, HST, 4x4 w/ R4 tires (no FEL as I also own a skid steer), with a 914A mid-deck direct drive PTO finish mower. LOVE THIS TRACTOR!!!
The TC30 was my final choice over the John Deere 1020. The final decision for me came down to whether I wanted to restore/wrench on a 50+ year old tractor, or MAINTAIN a good running TC30. I of course chose the later. I also purchased a new Rhino 160 bush/brush hog. The Rhino 160, at a healthy 640-LBS is a 'hog' that has eaten everything I have fed it, without a burp! I'm no expert and didn't stay at Holiday Inn Express last night, but the TC30 with a Rhino 160 is a very sweet setup.
The power of the TC30 in 4-wheel drive is AMAZING! The TC30 along with my Daewoo DSL601 skid steer w/60" Wicked Root Grapple from Everything Attachments is the 'ticket' when clearing land or chores around my small, mostly flat river-front property.
If anyone is on the fence about what compact tractor and bush hog to purchase for 5-50 acres....my vote is for the NH TC30 with a Rhino 160. Also, as another poster wrote, "...if your New Holland dealer tries to sell you a TC30 with HST, let him." Best advice I read... PERIOD!
