Still looking...
I have an opportunity to buy the following:

B7510, was delivered to the dealer 3-15-05, 21hp, hydro, 4wd, turf tires, 60MMM, 272 model bucket (new), 1.5 hours - still new, but it's been sitting for a while.

The cost on it is $12,500. Mower deck was obviously off the tractor for longer than the tractor was sitting around for. Some sun damage to the tractor, but not much. The paint is really faded on the mower.

A new one (but with 24hp just because of the upgrade to the 2320) is about $2,500 more.

Both have the same financing, warranty, etc.

My concern with the 05 is rust, hoses, seat, etc.. of sitting in the sun, rain, etc.

What would you do? Is $12,500 a good deal? I think if it was $11,000 it would be a no brainer....

Thoughts?

I agree with you. It has the "cheaper" loader but otherwise sounds like a good package. I am not sure I would pay that for something that has not moved in 4 years and sat out in the elements year round. At a minimum all fluid and filters should be changed. I would also check it for any animal (like mice) damage. I would also check all the rubber (tires, belts, hoses) like you stated.

The dealer would have to give me a MUCH better discount to convince me to buy a 4 year old tractor that has been sitting outside its entire life. Like mentioned, the UV damage to all exposed parts is probably of more concern than one might expect. I would have to really look the tractor over and make sure the dealer agreed to fix ANY and ALL breakdowns due to the UV damage over the length of the warranty period. Oh and I'd have him to put a new seat in the back somewhere cause you are gonna want it before the warranty runs out! For $2500 more dollars you are getting a STRONGER tractor, 3 range transmission, newer with some newer technology and who knows what else. If you are financing then how much difference does the extra money make in your payments? What does your budget allow for? Good luck and let us know how it all turns out. :p

I can afford it... I guess.... Best part about financing is that it's 42 months at 0% - that's why I'm even thinking about this one or new versus a used one from someone, but even used, I'm finding the differences are about $2 to 3k or so.

Would you give $11,000 or $11,500 and have them put the R4 tires on and bump up to the LA302 loader?

I don't know what the magic price point is, but it woild have to be enough that if something went wrong and I had to fix it it would still be a good deal.

My main concern wouldn't be what you could see or could have UV damage. It would be all that stauff I couldn't see. Alot of parts are kept in good shape when being used. What abouth the axles that aren't spinning so they didn't get lubed. All the fluids/lube probably long since broken down. What about all those seals that may have dried out and allowed whatever to get wherever it wanted.

For me it would have to be the deal of the century. 2500 divided by 42 payments is 60 dollars. What's your piece of mind worth?

Yeah, exactly.... that's what I was thinking. Whatever and whenever I buy one, I plan to take care of it and keep it forever.

I'm thinking I'm going to pass because starting off like this could potentially be a bad situation that just got worse.

This is a good question, does the new price include a deck? If so, then I'd go with new or find similar used with a couple hundred well cared for hours and maybe pay considerably less. One thing about Kubota is, you'd not think you'd have a significant breakdown with a low hour machine that's been cared for.

Good idea to pass, but also don't hold on to a romantic dream of "keep it forever". Take care of whatever you get and look forward to trading it in on a bigger tractor.

Well, I may not actually keep it forever, but after I convince my wife that I should get this one, trying to convince her I'll need a larger one later on, may be challenging....

I hope I do have to get a larger one later... that means I would have more property, so you are right, I will be looking forward to it...

I would go with a new ome for the facts like MedicShawn stated. Dried seals and O-Rings from non use. When I dish out good money I hate the inconvience to bring it in for service even though its under warranty. I excpect a new one, not an unused 4yr old one to be basically trouble free. Good luck in your decision though...
