Hey all,
I have a brand new NX6010 - took delivery on it in late April. A few weeks ago, I went out to start it up and only got a clicking noise. The battery was clearly close to dead. I charged it up and put a meter on it to check for a parasitic drain and sure enough, found it was sucking .19 amps even when not running. I'm pretty ticked at this because when I bought this tractor, the dealer told me it was a 2016 model which had been on his lot since Nov. of 2015. But after I took delivery and started checking out its condition, I found it has significantly more rust and deterioration of the grease and other parts to have been a 2016 model. I'm sure it's a 2015, maybe even a 2014. Now, that wouldn't have bothered me if they had been up front about it, but I believe they sold me a bill of goods to get their oldest machine off their lot. The dealer is about 100 miles away and have don't have the means to transport the tractor that far. I love the tractor, but I do feel like I've been taken advantage of a little bit. I'm really tempted to tell them I want it picked up, fixed, and brought back in the condition it should have been when I took delivery - all at their expense. Had this truly been a 2016 model I think chances of something being wrong with it at delivery would've been a lot less, so I want them to make good on this. Am I justified in asking for that?

Thanks,
Dave P

It's under warranty, right? Age has little to do with condition except for weather-related effects (corrosion, paint chalking, etc.). These new NX machines (unlike the older models) have modules that are always powered, but should draw little current. Troubleshooting isn't hard but you may need to replace something expensive to fix it so let the dealer do the work. It may be more cost-effective for his mechanic to come to you.

By the way, some of these new modules will draw a few tenths of an amp when first powered but then go to sleep (nil current) after running their power-up sequence. My truck does that. So check for that leakage current after everything has had time to power up and then power down. I assume you are using an ammeter inline with a battery cable and inserting the meter may cause things to reboot.

Yes, I was using an inline ammeter to check current draw. I had not considered that inserting the meter might cause an electronics reboot. Interesting thought. I'll hook it up and let it sit for a while to see if anything changes. Thanks for the tip!
