After lurking on this website and thinking/worrying/debating I finally took the plunge and bought a MF 1528 (liked it better than the Orange one)
But I have a question regarding engaging 4 wheel drive on it, the manual (and dealer) say the lever should be in the UP position. The crazy symbol sticker appears to say down to engage. While using the tractor last weekend, my tires started to spin while in the UP position, soooo I pushed the lever down and surprise.. I was able to pull out of the muck.
Can anyone confirm the proper position to engage 4wd on this model?

Welcome to TBN. There's lots of good info here.

The sticker on my 1533 shows a tire and an arrow pointing down to indicate the front wheels wil be putting power to the ground. This is with the handle in the down position. The up position has a picture of a tire with an arrow pointing up. This indicates the front wheels will not be putting power to the ground. So up=no mfwd and down=mfwd. At least on the 1533s and 1540s. Those are the only 2 models I've looked closely at.

my 1528 is in 4wd in the down position it has 2 open boxes with arrows the in the up position the arrow is pointing out of the box, and down with the arrow pointing in the box, hentZ ponting in the box as engadged and out of the box as disengadged.

Great, thanks for the welcome and confirming, mine have the same symbols as well, I hope thats the only mistake the manual has.

The two previous series, the 1200s and 1400 mid size pushed down to engage.

This is where standardized engineering images and common sense don't always see eye to eye. The image of the tractor with the front wheels spinning is the image to tell you that this lever is your 4wd engagement lever. The boxes with the arrows are images that represent engaged and dis-engaged. It is confusing.
