Trying to find a way to stop the leak on a mid 60s Ford 4000 PTO seal. I have some of the paper manuals that I bought, was wondering if the CDs with pictures were better.

1st, it would be helpful to know what 4000 you have. 62-65 blue and grey, or 65+ all blue and square profile hood?

As to the leak, there is just a seal and a gasket. Drain oil, remove 4 bolts and pull it out. Replace seal and gasket. 30 minute job.

Not if it's a 3 cylinder 8 speed 4000 and the thrust washer in the clutch housing drops out of position. That will require some finesse. Fact of the matter is, the seal is the same for both 3 And 4 cylinder 4000's and can be changed in place without pulling the shaft or disturbing the bearing/seal housing. If the shaft has radial or thrust play, more parts and effort will be required.

Classic lack of information. Yes, there could be other things wrong, or it could be leaking elsewhere and not the seal.
