Kubota L175 2 wd
I just found this site. It was referenced on another site I visit.

My wife and I own a small organic vegetable farm, or really big garden, and use an old L175 to do our heavy work. I use a tiller, an old weeder, a homemade tool bar with 4 harrow teeth, a mower, and hook stuff to a drawbar. The tractor has a front end loader and a winch on back, which is great for hooking up the implements.

We live and love in northern Maine, along the Canadian border.

I have been looking through this forum and found lots of information about tractors I didn't know. This is my first tractor and I seem to use it a lot. I have a couple of problems with it. The first is that sometime before i bought it, someone broke the connection between the left arm of the TPH and the rear hub casing. They bolted some iron on the casing and bent the arm to compensate for the damage. The result is the arms will swing so much
they rub on the tires. I just need to get it to a fabricator to engineer some king of stop to end that problem.
The second problem is that when I am running the tractor in 3 or 4 or 7 or 8 gears, the high gears in the rear of the shift pattern, oil boils up from the resevoir around the shift lever. That problem bothers me.

Have any of you fellows had this problem and can you offer some advice on a solution?

The tractor has about 940 hours and is diesel. I guess that's all for tonight. It is getting sleepy in here.

Welcome to TBN.

I can't offer any suggestions as to why your transmission is doing what it is, but I think your three point hitch problem is related to the winch. I assume what you have is a skidding winch on the back of the tractor.

I have one on mine and have done the same thing. The winch works good when pulling straight behind the tractor. When pulling too much to the side it twists the three point lift arms and will bend and brake them pretty quickly. I toggled together a fix until I could get replacement parts, it took three years to fix the patch worked fine so why bother fixing it.

You will find a great bunch people at this site and a wealth of information.

Welcome Chas.

"oil boils up"....couple of ideas...when was the last time the tranney filter was replace etc..could there be to much oil and the right brand of tranny oil...have you try slower speed when working the tractor under load for period of time.
940 hours I wouldn't think the tranny needs a good flushing, but it maybe worth a try.

Youare, no I don't have a logging winch, just a small one to grab the top of a TPH and lift it into place. I think the damage was done with something big being dropped on the tractor, or something big being run into.

Thomas, I changed the oil and cleaned the filter last summer. Maybe the oil I got was too light. I hope that is the problem rather than trying to take the top off the tranny.

Thank you both for your ideas.

Chas,

If I am understanding you correctly, the arms are “swaying” back and forth to far. If so, the simple answer is to add a set of chains or turnbuckles to the outside of the arms to limit the sway. This is a pretty standard fix. I don’t have any picture handy( I just put my backhoe back on), maybe someone here can post some for you.

Good to see another Mainer here!

CHAS, I dont have the answers to your problems, but from one MAINER to another i wanted to welcome you to tbn. I recently visited AROOSTOCK county[FORT KENT and surrounding areas] on an atv vacation, its wonderful up there!! I have never seen so many tractor dealers!
Is it possible the oil level is too high?Is there some type of rubber boot thats worn bad around the lever?

Thanks for the nice welcome from you Maine guys. I will check the rubber boot idea.
Button down, it's going to be a long winter.

I want to welcome you as the others have! It's nice to see you doing organic farming! We do all natural/organic in just about every way possible - both with what we grow and what we purchase to eat. We do "splurge" on other things to eat at times, but overall maintain a pretty healthy diet.
Best wishes to you!
Terry
