This will probably be an easy one for this community. I caused my PTO clutch to stop working when I crossed a dry-ish creek bed with my Woods RD8400 mower running. The spot I crossed was a little soft, the rear tires sunk a little more than expected and the mower came down hard on the bank. The PTO clutch stopped working in that I couldn't disengage the PTO clutch with the clutch pedal. Four years later (I bypassed the safety - I know, I know...) I have split the tractor to find the PTO operation problem was due to one of the three clutch pack bolts that works the PTO clutch had broken. My 1720 has 5900+ hours on it and I decided to replace the clutch discs even though they had some life left. I had the discs relined by KYClutch.com ($90 for both, Good People, Fast Service, Screamin' deal considering everyone wanted $250 even for two ReMan discs and NH wanted $375).
Now I've reassembled the clutch pack and need help with the specs for tightening/adjusting the three bolts with lock nuts that go through the primary (rearmost) pressure to the PTO pressure plate that holds the front (PTO?) clutch to the flywheel. I added a side view pic with the bolts loose and the lock nuts not tightened down to the PTO pressure plate and one after assembly. It seems the bolts should only be touch (Finger) tightened then the lock nuts tightened to the PTO Clutch pressure plate to get both clutches to work right.
I mounted the rearmost clutch as in Pic #2 with the taller portion of the center "in' or forward in the clutch pack. Correct? Also, there's a little play (1/16") in the pressure plate fingers now that it is all bolted to the tractor. Any problem with that?
Thanks For Any Help I can Get (including any torque specs) on a Weekend! It is just one of those things you don't want to bolt together wrong and have to do all over again!
