Hello all I'm looking to glean knowledge on buying a tractor thats economical for 4 to 10acres and I need some input on getting rid of some old ag machinery I'm in western Tn. Look forward to hearing from you all... fyi looking at Chinese tractors as they are affordable and pretty easy to work on just have to have a good source for parts.

What is your tractor budget?

The most efficient way to shop for tractors is to identify potential tractor applications first, then determine bare tractor weight necessary to safely accomplish your applications.

The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower.

Shop your weight range within tractor brands. Budget will eliminate some choices. Collect a dealer brochure for each tractor model in your weight range. I spreadsheet tractor and implement specs, often a revealing exercise. I have a column for cost per pound.

My property has mostly level ground but has a slight slop in one area, but its mostly level I will be using the tractor to bush hog, finish mow, rototill, and disk the ground along with plant about an acre or two Garden, lift hay bales move dirt and compost just to name a few, honestly I dont want to spend over $10k this is why I leaning toward Japanese tractors 20k for a small to medium sized tractor seem ludicrous, hick I never paid over 10k for a truck....dont wanna start by paying for a tractor first.

A Tandem Disc Harrow and a PTO powered Rototiller both mix soil. You only need the Roto-tiller.

Assuming your hay bales weigh less than 1,000 pounds, a tractor with a bare tractor weight of around 2,700 pounds should be about right. Few tractors in your price range will have a Loader. However, you can move bales with a Three Point Hitch mounted Bale Spear.

Every tractor brand includes a model in the 2,600 pound to 2,900 pound (bare tractor) range with 100 cubic inch/24 horsepower engine ample for your tasks. Tractors under 19 kW ( 19 KW = 25.4794-horsepower) are presently exempt from stringent Tier IV emission controls which abruptly increase a tractor's cost above the 19 kW power demarcation.

Kubota's high volume L2501 is in this category. Plenty of used ones out there.

I suggest, rather than shopping Chinese tractors you instead look at used ones from a brand with good parts supply.

Dealer stock in your area has everything from a "johnny popper" 430 to a "Johnny" 1025r.

Beware of parts and service issues with whatever you select. A $6k tractor you cannot get serviced will not be a bargain.

For $10K or less I’d recommend a used John Deere 750/850/950 series. Built in Japan by Yanmar they’re bullet proof with high parts availability. Would be good for 10 acres or less. If going new I’d recommend a Kubota L2501HST but you won’t get one for $10K.
