Re: Kill Switch On New Tractor

Third, starting multiple identical threads on the same question is frowned upon, and considered poor form. It causes answers to one question to be spread around in more than one place, making it harder for people to find in search results. It also frequently causes the same posters, who answer a lot of questions here, to respond more than once, because they don't always look at who the OP is. ;)
Unless someone merges the threads (like I just did).

Outstanding :)

You're right though, I should have added that it can also create more work for busy moderators who don't get paid for all they do to keep a forum running (not being a wise guy, I know it's a lot of work).

I detected some type of kill switch connected to the seat. When I would stand up to look over the front, motor stops. I got to thinking, in the past while using my JD tractor, I often stand or get off to have a closer look at something in my path or to adj the rear rt link, or many other reasons.

That's why you have two hands - use one to hold down the seat when you stand. :)

Heck, I might get off and on 50 or even 100 x in a day. I sure dont want to have to start the engine that many times.

That's not a problem, assuming you put it in neutral and have the PTO disengaged before you get off. The kill switch doesn't apply in that case. If you do need to run the PTO when you dismount there is a way to bypass the switch. On my JD 870 you tilt the seat up and lift the switch until it clicks.

I don't think disabling the switch is a good idea - if nothing else it shuts off the engine if you fall off or tip over, which is good. I seldom find it to be an issue. I seriously doubt that most guys on the forum have disabled them.

Here's a little fact I found on the WWW

In 2010, 476 farmers and farm workers died from a work-related injury, resulting in a fatality rate of 26.1 deaths per 100,000 workers. Tractor overturns were the leading cause of death for these farmers and farm workers.

If my tractor overturned I sure as **** want a safety switch to turn the thing off.
