New Member/Owner

Good Morning. I am a new member to this board and, as of this weekend, a new Montana Tractor owner - 5740 with FEL. Thanks to all who posted before me. You helped me make the decision to purchase the Montana Brand.

My first question is: Now that I have the 5740 what, if any, quirks/problems should I be aware of so that I don't abuse or break it when it is delivered? The dealer only stated "Don't ride the clutch." and "Don't grind the shuttle shifter."

Anything else you experienced owners can add?

Thanks again for all the posts that helped me pick among the various tractors on the market.

Going for the Brush Hog 286 next.

Congrads Sarge!! and Welcome to the Montana owner family. What kind of tires did you get on your 5740? I don't know of any particular quirks to the 5740. It's hard working and will/should do just about anything you need it to do within it's HP limits. I've got a 5740C and have had mine since 2005. I've had a couple of problems over that time but I wouldn't say they were "quirks" to the 5740C.

The hard plastic diesel tank your tractor is equipped with has given Montana fits regarding leaking at the screw holes in the past, but I understand they changed the design and the problem is fixed now, so yours should be OK. That was one of my problems.

Also, the hydraulic system sprung a huge leak in mine where the couplings go into that black box under the step up on the right side, but that was an O ring problem in one particular line for my FEL. No biggy when the O rings were changed. This could happen to any FEL on any tractor though.

Other than that, no problemos!

My 5740 was over a year old when my tank started leaking. I thought that I would have to buy the tank since it was out of the 1st year bumper to bumper warranty but the dealer told me Montana extended the warranty on the tank for a 2nd year. Boy was I excited!

Good luck with the new tractor Sarge. Post up some pics of that new setup when you get the Bush Hog on.
