New member here. I just bought a 16' dual axle utility trailer made by Down 2 Earth. Has anybody heard about their quality/reputation? Also, the small dealer that I bought it from said that it had surge brakes. However, I don't see a master cylinder with brake lines. There are two wires that go into each of the four drums leading me to believe that it has electric brakes. If I do have electric brakes, I assume that I need a brake controller. Which one would you recommend for a 03 Silverado 1500?

If all you see are wires going into the drums, you have electric brakes. Dealer may have his terminology mixed up.
I ran a Prodigy brake controller with digital read out in an 04 2500HD. It worked great for me. If your truck came with the towing package you should be able to just buy the adapter for your truck and plug it in. I remember having to swap a wire in the plug on the adapter on mine to make it work correctly. If I remember right the brakes were on the power supply port, and locked up all the time. If you do that you will definantly know it. Someone else may be able to explain it better.

Any controller will be just fine for the occasional tow. The P3 is the best $100 price range controller out there.

Tekonsha P2 or P3, have a look at etrailer.com for selections and video instructions. P3 has digital readout and also handles electric over hydraulic if you ever need to pull a trailer with those.
