Tractor
JD 5203
Hello everyone, I plan on buying a new tractor by mid July of this year. I have looked at the JD 5203, MF 431, and also looked at some Kubotas. I will be using the tractor to bush hog 7-8 acres twice yearly which contains all grass, will occasionally cut some small areas thans than 1/4 acre with brush up to 2 inch in diameter. There is a 5 % chance that I will buy a FEL in the future. I will be disking and tilling 5-6 acres yearly for planting wildlife foodplots. All the land is flat with Georgia red clay. I am looking for something dependable that is easy to service, nothing fancy, standard transmission. I plan on buying the following 6 foot attachments, Line Bach disk harror, Dirt Dog box blade, JD MX6 rotary cutter, Taylor Way rotary tiller. What's the advantage of a roll over box blade vs. a standard box blade? What kind of discount should I expect on the attachments if I purchase them with the tractor. Also what's a good price on the JD 5203 with out the taxes. Would I be better off on using 5 foot attachments with these size tractors. Is the quick attach system worth the money for hooking up attachments. How much will insurance cost if the tractor stays on the farm, at last is Low Jack worth the money $700.00??
Thanks in advance for any ones help. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I bought a JD 5303 last summer for the purpose of mowing my 10 acre homestead. I also do a little bit of hay raking and do a little bit of dirt work with it, too. I got the 510 loader with 72" bucket, MX6 cutter and six foot box blade for a little over $22,000 brand new. I am here in Missouri, and don't know if the pricing would be different for you. I absolutely love this tractor. It has done everything I have wanted it to do, and more. I have cut down some good diamater trees with the MX6 and still mow my front yard with it. It cuts almost as good as a finish mower. I can usually cut about 15 acres in about an hour and 15 minutes. I don't have any problems with the six foot attachments, but the 5303 is a little bigger than the 5203. I have pulled a 10' brush hog with no problem. I hope my ramblings help you making your decision on what to buy. I found this site really helpful in making my decision on what to buy.

I don't know too much about the larger series, but I decided I didn't want anything made in China and had experience with Japanese made tractors. You turned the key; it started -period. I bought 790 partly for that reason; simplicity, yanmar engine, Japanese made. I ruled out any consideration of the 5000's as they were too big for my needs but also because they were made in India - just a thought, but the 990 is pretty large and has a yanmar diesel. You can look those yanmar engines up and they are used for many applications all over the world.
