Hi all,
I am a farmer in Namibia, 60 years of age, owner of a cattle ranch of 4500 ha, father of 2 girls and 3 boys, married since 1979 to the same girl.
Apart from raising beef from 800 Nguni animals I also produce charcoal, deko-mulch and compost. All of this is done manually with very little machine power. But I need a machine here and there and need advice on what to purchase or how to repair. Any questions?

Welcome to TBN. I had the pleasure of spending 6 months in Namibia in 1989-1990 courtesy of the UN. Beautiful country. Frequently drove from Ondangwa to Windhook. Swakupmund to Bethanie. I fell in love with the land and the people. I hope to get back there one more time.

As far as help on selecting the best machine for your needs, you've hit the right place. I'd provide some myself, but I'm pretty new to tractors and such...so I'll leave that advice to the experienced members of TBN.

I saw 'Namibia' and had to respond. Good luck in your quest.

Hello Georgef, Welcome to TBN, I'm new here myself and from Australia.

The world is indeed getting smaller.

I'd like to see some pics of your charcoal opperation. I've made some Biochar and am looking at trying to turn it into a business. (part time)

Regards Vince.

To Moore Cookie,
I have no problems regarding tractors, just a question regarding competitive wood chippers. But so far nobody has responded to that.

Hi Vince,
I do not know what pics to send. This farm of 4700ha is heavily encroached with acacia meliffera, a thorn bush, all over. So what we do is to hire self employed people who cut the biggest bushes and convert them to charcoal by means of a primitive kiln that looks like some huge drum with open end and a hole on the other side with a cover. The cold charcoal then gets bagged and collected and stored at a central point, and once we have 34tons on site a truck is hired to take this load to the markets in South Africa, some 2000km from here.

:)From your original post on this thread I do not see a Question about wood chippers? Now that the members know what you are woumdering about I am sure you will get your questions answered.

Do you have a horse power range that you will drive a wood chipper with or do you need it to be self driven, and will it be mobile or a stationary unit?:D
