Kubota MX5100, Kubota BX2350, David Brown 880 Implematic
Gidday all, new member here from the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, Australia. I run a small macadamia farm with around 800 mature trees, on 25 acres. Currently I have three tractors. A very old David Brown 880 Implematic, that came with the farm when I bought it 14 years ago. Since then I've added a Kubota BX2350 with which I mow, and importantly, mount my macadamia harvester. The David Brown was used for slashing (bush hogging I think you guys call it), but because of its age, being 2wd, and becoming somewhat unreliable, I have recently bought a Kubota MX5100 (geared) to do the slashing duties. I have a mix of ground, some flat and some quite steep, and I wasn't that comfortable using the DB on the steeper parts of my land, thus the purchase of the MX5100 (4wd). I've been a reader of this forum for quite a few years - it's a wonderful resource - but finally decided with my recent tractor purchase, to register, as there are a few things I would like to discuss with some of the many knowledgeable people on this board.

Cheers Macanuts.

How about some pictures of that old tractor as well as some of you farm?

:welcome: mate ...Would also like some pictures of your macadamia harvester. Those nuts grow on trees, right?

Thanks for the very interesting pictures. We sure don't see anything like that around here.

:welcome:! Interesting setup you have. Is that a tree nut?

Yep. Macadamias are native to my area, and are a forest tree, although commercial orchard trees bear little resemblance to the natives. Commercial trees are hybrids bred (propagated) for yield and nut size. My particular trees were bred in Hawaii - another significant macadamia growing area - and their commercial designation is H246. Most trees planted today in Australia are "A" varieties bred locally. The "A"s have a much shorter lead in time - around 5 years till significant yields, whereas the "H" varieties are around 10-15 years before they really produce nut.

Very nice! I'm just trying to get two lowly pecan trees to grow in my yard! :ashamed:
