Bought a 1959 Massey 204 Industrial Tractor with loader and 3pt. Has continental gas engine. Supposedly industrial version of the MF35. Has been rebuilt and refurbished and looks like new. Starts and runs great. Here are my problems. When filling the bucket with sand when I go and back up with the bucket full the rear tractor tires spin and bury the tractor. It has some small wheel weights but not much. Been told that by adding weight to the back tires, weight on the 3 pt or a heavy implement it will help that. Bought a 5 foot box blade that weighs 425 lbs. Needed that for level ground plus thought the weight would solve the loader issue. The 3 point hitch will not lift the box blade. Is 425lbs too heavy for the 3 point or is something else wrong or am I doing something wrong?

Hi. I had an old 1959 550 Oliver gas (42 hp) and it is not normal that your 3 points cannot lift 425 pounds, check if the level of hydraulic oil in your 3 pts is at level.( if it is like the Oliver, it is beside or behind he seat, looks like a breather except it have a dipper stick) If it is at level, maybe your hydraulic pump is sick. When using your bucket you MUST have ballast on your 3 points. For example, on my Oliver I had loaded tires and when plowing snow and lifting I had a 800 pounds cement block on my 3 points as a ballast, otherwise the rear wheels had no traction and were spinning ( too light because the load in the bucket). Good luck

I have a MF 204 and it has an old 55 gallon oil drum mounted on the 3 pt. hitch. This barrel is about 3/4 full of concrete, so it weighs hundreds of pounds. And it is supported by two heavy chains that are pinned to the rear of the tractor.
Your 3 pt. will lift your box blade if you follow this procedure. Shift the gear shift lever in to neutral. ( If I remember right it will be the longer shift lever, if not then try the smaller lever) Then slide the lift arm lever to the raise position. Now step on the forward throttle pedal. This will run the hydraulic pump and lift the lift arms up.
I have been running my 204 since 1975. She is built like a tank and just keeps going.
