Took delivery from Barlow's on the 23d of a new M7040 HD-1 with FEL and Land Pride RCF2772. They delivered within an hour of planned arrival, couldn't find a close price within 250 miles for a new rig.
Our fields hadn't been mowed in 2.5 years and were fairly heavy with rose bushes, camp elder and thorns. The folk I'd had mow before that were pretty timid on the edges so they'd moved in. The hawks were really happy as I finished each field...they kept landing looking for prey. With cast iron rears and the loader the tractor was very stabile even in fairly wet spring conditions. The best part was running over rose bushes in first gear, good fertilizer for the grass
Also have been cutting and moving downed elms with the bucket to clear a woods that was once a field...my father last cut it in 1960 with a Farmall CA from the 50's.
Short of disconnecting the mower from the tractor...how do you get to the grease point inside the mower U-joint? I've tried swivels and flex hosing, all too stiff.

You have some nice equipment with which to work, I use an RCR2672 on our L5740 and it works great, we use a Woods DS1260 on our M8540 and really like the M Series; M7040 and LP RCF2772 is a good combination.

Great looking rig...I picked up the 6040 with similar setup as yourself and really like most everything about it. Two months old and needs first service, so definitely using it.

Check your tractor grease points as well as dealer near me didn't grease anything. Have you disconnected the u joint and flexed it to see if that would allow u access to grease.

Best of luck with everything and enjoy!

You'll have to disconnect the pto shaft from the tractor to grease both U-joints.

Just in case you didn't know...be sure to grease the two tail wheel zerks as well.

"The best part was running over rose bushes in first gear, "

Some years ago, I lived in Maryland, up on the Eastern Shore. My land was covered with multiflora roses. I had an Allis Chalmers WD 40, with a 5' mower. I had to go in first gear, and had the engine revved up at about 1700 rpm (which I recall was high for that tractor), but the mower would chomp up any rosebush I could drive the tractor over. One time, I tackled a 6' high rosebush, only to learn that there was a white faced hornet's nest in the middle. Things got exciting fast. I still don't know how I escaped getting multiple stings. I was more cautious after that episode. I did finally get rid of all the rosebushes.

Really nice setup you have there. That 2772 is a heck of a stout cutter.

Thanks all, 40 hours now, lots of loader lessons building a road to a new barn, a Bob Cat, it is not but if the rocks aren't monsters it is quite capable of rearranging a bunch of earth in a hurry.
Good hornet advice PMHOWE, liked the story:)
Treesanddust correct on disconnecting to service
cmbertrand...good advice, in fact they'd painted over the boom arm grease points
