Yep if you're outside and have some light or a flashlight. I just checked tractorsmart.com. New sight window is about $6. I also needed a couple light bulbs but one was $2.75 (idiot lights) and the tach night bulb was about $5!!! Heck I'll look local if I ever need it at night.
tractorsmart.com is great for little parts, mailed to your office or home, shipping $5.00. Even multiple packages. Items usually dropped shipped from Kubota if not is stock. Order on Monday and I usually have it on Friday.

It's been almost a week. Dealer hasn't called or anything. Glad I don't need the tractor to make my living. Fortunately I won't even be able to pick it up for another 5 days at the earliest. I'm still withholding judgment at this point, but it seems like a simple message on the answering machine to let me know what was up would have been nice.

Its been a week and a half and since I had not heard anything from the dealer, I went ahead and called them. They told me the tractor had been ready since last week and they must have forgotten to call me. I didn't have time to find out what was wrong and what was fixed. Seems a little slack not to have called me when it was ready, but I couldn't pick it up before tomorrow anyway so it hasn't caused me any trouble.

Here's the final installment. Had to rent a trailer to pick the tractor up, the one I'd borrowed last time was too far out of the way. The problem was what we thought it was, o-ring blown out where the remote hooked to the tranny case. I suspect it was from improper installation but no one at the dealer mentioned that. The tractor works just fine now.
Cost: Gas: $40 (two round trips). Trailer rental: $70 Total: $110
The dealer did what he was expected to do. No more, no less. So I'm fairly satisfied, no more, no less. Like I say, I'd give them a C+ on this one. I expected a little more since in all probability this was their error, not even a factory flaw. But all is well.
Funny thing is, when I went to pick it up the guy who sold me the tractor was there and we spoke and he then told me that someone I'd referred to him came in and bought a tractor. I can't remember who it was, but it was somebody here on TBN. He'd PMed me from TBN about where I bought mine and I told him I was pleased with the dealer. Apparently he came down from southern Virginia and bought one. I'm still happy with the dealer but he should be real happy with me! He should be happy with TBN too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep. It got quite a workout this weekend mowing and clearing an old logging deck. It does a great job, but I was basically using it like a bulldozer, pushing, scooping, dumping. Amazing how much power this little tractor has. I would not want to do this type of work all the time though as i think it would put a lot of wear and tear on a machine very quickly.
About that o-ring. We guessed that's what it was and my brother-in-law offered to fix it. He has his own shop for working on his own stable of old tractors. Does engine, hydraulic and tranny work. But I was nervous about getting any work done outside the dealership since it is still under warranty. I think I did the right thing by taking it back to the dealer though.

You know I just though that it's funny you don't see any service calls anymore. That would probably save everyone time and money. When I was a mechanic I serviced new and old engines. People would call and I'd get a real good descritpion of the problem. Since Deutz paid for service calls I would load up the things I thought it was and go out on the call. If it was an o-ring I'd swap it out, watch it run for a while and move on. If it was something we did then we would just eat the cost.
But something small I'd probably do it myself to save the trouble. Again something small and there was little risk of me really screwing something up.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pics? No. Several reasons. Like any first time tractor buyer I took a roll (yep, still a film guy, for now) of pics of the tractor, tractor with kids on it, bucket up, bucket down. But my point & shoot camera got stolen. I've taken another roll of slides but still haven't gotten them back. Will post as soon as I get them back.
As far as field service, this dealer said they didn't do it at all, but I was thinking the same thing. And I suspect this dealer probably sells most of its units to weekend warriors like me, and hobby farmers, etc. So we don't depend on our machines for our living. Now, if I bought a real Ag machine and was a full time farmer, I'd _expect_ field service and would find a dealer that provided it. The JD dealer nearby, that sells a lot more large Ag type equipment does do field service. Also, I'm a full two counties away from this dealer.
