Kubota L3940
Hello,

I am new owner of L3940. I think it is 2008 and it has about 800 hours on it. I love it.

I am still getting to know this tractor and don't have a lot of previous tractor experience. It came with a hydraulic top link and I would like to use the rear remotes with my 3pt hydraulic log splitter. Problem is, when I hook up my log splitter and hook into the rear remote, the control for the rear remotes doesn't lock - I can move it to either side, but then it returns to center and doesn't provide any hydraulic pressure. I have attached a picture of this lever.

What can I do about this? Can I just use a bungee cord and "lock" it in one position? I was worried this might be bad for something. Other options?

Any help greatly appreciated...

so the splitter has it's own lever? If so I don't see why you can't do what you are saying. But I'm no expert.
Welcome aboard!

What you need is a "detent" valve for the remote. It's a detent like the loader's float detent but just sticks the valve in one position. Adding float or a detent is an option when you buy the Kubota remotes. Ask the dealer if there is a kit that you can install on the valve that will add the detent. Some valves have that.

Some people use the bungie cord method to do what you're doing.

Yes, splitter has its own lever. I don't use the splitter very much (10 hours a year or so), so rather than buy a new valve I would rather just use a bungee cord. I just didn't know if I would be damaging something expensive doing it that way and wanted to confirm that was okay work-around...Any risk I should know about?

Careful, man!!!! If you use that bungee cord, at least one astronaut is going to fall out of the space station! :)

Just make sure the splitter is hooked up before hooking the cord up.

Ha! Yes, no doubt I am being a little over-cautious. I just make too many mistakes that cost me money!

Good reminder. Thanks for all the help, guys! I ended up calling up the dealer who worked on the tractor and they said the bungee cord would work okay or I could buy detent valve for $300. At this point, I will stick with bungee cord - might be different if I ever get a chipper..

Awesome forum!

Are you happy with the speed of the splitter? Rear remotes don't provide much oil flow and can make splitters with large cylinders painfully slow. I've used them on several of my tractors with only limited success. I find it good enough to split wood for an infrequent fireplace fire but splitting a cord of wood would take a whole weekend.

Instead of a bungee on the self centering valve, I use a simple triangular shaped wood wedge. I place it in between the valve stem and the sheet metal cutouts. This lets me adjust the flow rate on implements like seed or ash spreaders with hydraulic motors.
