The MX5 I am (was) looking at has the front and rear saftey chains. I see the weight listed at about 850 lbs. Add the weight of my quick hitch and such and such......I think this is a bit much for my 790 and I guess I need to pass on it. Too bad....cause this is/was a nice cutter at a fair price. Methinks the tail would be wagging the dog in my situation. Back to the search. Thanks for the input everyone.

Hi, foggy1111

Do you know if the MX5 is still available? I really could use one for my JD 3520... thanks

Hmmmm......I dont know if they still have it....but, I may be over that way this weekend or I can call them tomorrow to find out. It did seem to be in very good conditon and I thought the price was fair. It was just too heavy for my situation.

Or, PM me and I will give you the JD Dealer phone number and name.

By the way....I ended up buying a new light duty 5' KK for $550.00 - I just couldn't pass on the price.

Next problem for me is getting some safety chains on the FRONT of the cutter......as I can see the blade tips from the tractor seat....which concerns me allot. I am surprised with all the cutters they sell...that people arnt getting hit with trash from the blades. I wish someone, somewhere would show me a picture of what KK has to offer....so I could copy their design.:D I have posted for this pic a few times...but alas no pics yet.

I asked at TSC....and the guy did call KK which said they offer 'em at "about $200" and that the chains are a weld-on affair (for the front - the back is a bolt-on affair). I'm not real sure how to go about this build (how to mount to the cutter)...and I would really like to see a picture. I got some scrap chains and some steel....but still....I would like to see how KK builds em before I start (plus I turned the heat off in the shop till it warms up a little around here ).

Anyone have a photo of the KK safety chain offering? please?

Yooper, I went by the JD dealer today and they still had it. Mankato Implement, Mankato, MN is the dealer.

This may not make any difference in your decision, but I went and looked at a 5ft KK bush hog yesterday that a fellow near me had up for sale for $450. The cutter was actually pretty new, he said he had only used it 5-6 times in a couple years. His house/acreage was small and mostly wooded so I believed what he was telling me. Anyway, he had it hooked up to a 35hp Kubota and I asked him to fire it up so I could look underneath the mower, and then spin it up to check for any major vibration.
Well let me tell you, that had to be the noisiest mower I ever heard in my whole life!! And it was still fairly new looking! Right then I decided it wasn't for me, so, I passed on it. Think I'm gonna get that 5ft international mower I looked last week. It was made more heavier duty with a slip clutch and ran a lot quieter!!

I bought the guy's KK II tiller. I probably would have bought the brush hog had I not already had the exact model. One thing I have noticed is that sometimes (very rare) a blade can get turned in on the mower and not sling out when run, talk about noise and vibration. Typically I just stop the PTO, restart, and it straightens out. Perhaps that was the issue on the unit you saw. The mower is pretty cheap and cheaply made, but it meets my needs. I have just less than 10 acres mostly all woods.

I wonder about the KingKutter brand. It seems to be two companies. One is King Kutter located somewhere (I forget) and the other is King Kutter II, located somewhere else (can't recall that either). I was looking at the stickers on the equipment just the other day and noticed the difference.

Thanks, foggy - I will check on the MX5. Maybe will get away from this snow and take a trip to Minnesota. Thanks again....
