New King Kutter or Used MX5 ?

OK....already I have a dilemma.....

I can purchase
1. a new King Kutter 60" HD with slip clutch for $1629.
2. a new lighter duty 60" King Kutter for $759.
3. a lightly used (looks very nice top and bottom) MX5 with slip clutch for $1300 with a new set of blades. (The original blades are fair to middling.)

Any of these cutter choices would go on a JD 790. I am leaning toward the MX5.....but.....Opinions?

I would go with the MX5 IF your 790 can lift it...check the weight as the MX's are built like a tank! JD would probably recommend the LX5 for this reason.

Thanks Kenny.....that was the direction I was heading too (the MX 5) but I wonder too about the weight on the back. I looked it up and it weighs about 865 lbs. Seems like alot for this little tractor....and that has me concerned too. Anyone have this combination (790 with MX5) ?

I have an MX5 on the back of my 3720. Its great! and heavy!!! Our 4110 can lift it. but needs a bucket full of dirt to be stable.

That's alot of iron for a 790! (Pretty good price, though.) If you weren't planning on using the mower in hilly terrain or in heavy, tall weeds, etc. -- you've likely got enough pto horses to manage the thing.

But, if you've got slopes and sidehills, etc. - get the light duty KK.

yep.....alas....I think the MX5 is a bit too much weight for the 790 to handle in rough country. I think I will keep looking for a little while....the light King Kutter is always available......and likely a good choice for me.

That is cutter only, no safety shields, chains, or pto shaft.

i've always opted for used quality equipment over new lesser made equipment......
