HI,
I'm a new TBN member, semi-retired, live in Florida (sandy soil) and am a 1st time tractor buyer. My intended use is for landscaping on my 1 acre and for part time back-blade work on lots. I am intrigued with the Jinma and am considering a purchase from a dealer for a 224 who is 5 hrs away and has a good swap deal for turf tire upgrade from the ag tires. However, Northern' 204C looks good, about the same price and is delivered here. Nice! But the turf tire upgrade is $1100. Ugh! The dilemma is tires and time & distance to the dealer or going with Northern. Do the ag tires print the lawn? They don't look too agressive! . Maybe they'd be OK? FEL is also a consideration.
Appreciate any help from hurricane ravaged Florida.
PS: Great site! Been reading alot of comments.

Hey SubMan,

Check with Deal On Wheels, Pensacola, Florida. Swapping Tires and wheels,, I doubt it. But you can order your tractor set up the way that you want it. Best deal I could find and they will sell assembled or in a crate. Talk to Mr Bryant and tell him Joe sent you. 850.937.0011

Have a nice day,

Hi,

I have a Jinma 284 and live in Western PA. From my experience the ag tires do mark up a lawn pretty badly, even when the ground is dry. After a couple of passes, one can cleary see the imprint of the tire treads in the lawn. By the way, this occurs even when operating in 2 wheel drive.

Ags are too tough on my yard, and leave a good imprint. Lots of weight, especialy with a FEL per the tread surface area. Turfs should be fine in FL. Your highest elevation is a bridge, correct? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My lawn is strictly for a small mower but I do finish mow 8 acres or so. It looks great all summer and does a good job on ag tires. I was concerned about the ag tires initally but it turned out to be no problem. If you are going to do much loader or box blade work the ags are much better for traction. It really comes down to your primary application.

Sandy soil is even worse for ag-type tires. The roots have no purchase, and are simply pushed aside by the tire lugs. If you're strictly doing cosmetic work - and don't anticipate any high traction requirements - I highly recommend going with the turfs.

There is a compromise tire, but you might have a problem finding rims. It's called an R4 - often referred to as an "industrial tread" - and is somewhat of a compromise between ags and turfs

Thanks John,
Yup! When you see a slight rise or hill, its alsmost tempting to stop and enjoy the view from a few yards up!

Wayne,
Thanks for the comments. I lean toward turf tires, but I have access to free palms thru a buddy in land clearing biz, and might need the ag tires for moving them around with a loader or possible rig on the back blade. I primarily want to take care of the property. The dog-gone storms and hurricanes wash out ground all the time.
