I went and tried out a new 4320 today. It was real nice.

It is so new the salesman didn't even know where any of the controls were yet. They didn't have brochures or anything on it.

I am in a dilemma whether to get a 4710 or 4320. Here are some pics I took:

Hey FLDave,

I'd say go with the one you like the best.

Is that flap on the sunshade of the instrument panel the fuel filler door? If it is I can see what everybody is complaining about with it.

FL Dave,

I see you are a new member, so you most likely are unaware of proper usage with regards to photos. Many users have modems and when you put your photos inline, it takes those modem users alot more time to download your pictures. It has kind of been the "norm" to post a link to your photos instead (when you are referencing them from a website elsewhere). That way users can choose to download them if they choose.

Also, your last photo is much wider in pixels than the size of the table used in the forum, so it kind of screws up the formatting of the page.

I love the pictures though.

Yes Woody that is the fuel door right above the instrument panel. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sorry Gator, I took a couple of pics off and resized the one that I sent through too large. I'll get things straight. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It even had a digital speedometer under the tach!

I like the new design but I'm not sure I like where they placed the fuel door. I can just see myself spilling a bunch of fuel all over that nice dash. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

No Kidding Jay - that is just downright bad planning to place the filler there. Don't the guys that design these use them as well??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think they should have put the fuel door and tank in the rear. FNH does, and that I do like, plus more weight on the back end for loader work, but I guess a minus for three point stuff.
I talked to a dealer today, same thing, they are pretty clueless about the 4x20 tractors, he told me to come up and figure it out, /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

No 4x20 machines here yet. I did get to see a 400x (?) loader on a 4600 a few days ago. I can see why they did it. The view to the bucket is improved compared to the 460s I've looked at.

My 990's got the fuel tank at the back and I see no difference in hooking up 3 point stuff compared to my old 4300. Actually the 990 is a lot nicer to fill up and easier too.

Hi

How would that fuel door work with a curtis or other cab installed on that tractor . Looks like you may end up filling up inside the cab and that would not be good.

Perhaps I should not say it but it looks like JD is trying to stylize the new series and perhaps to a functional fault. As for me I prefer my tractor to function and look like a tractor as much as possible. Keep the extra curves and design compromises to the more fashionable transportation vehicles please. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Just my $.02

Interesting and great looking tractor.
My dealer/salesman had the literature, and had been to a meeting to test drive and become familiar with the new tractors.

I would just use a funnel to fill the new one with fuel. It helps, as well as it would be okay if the fuel was in a barrel and a hose and nozzle was used instead of a 5 gal container. I don't like the position of the fill for the fuel either, but I suspect this is the least disruptive of the many give and take options and decisions the engineers had to make. I don't see a lot of room behind the seat for a tank, IMO.

(P.S. Kids gave me a shirt for Fathers'Day that says "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive RED Tractors" followed by a green tractor. Sure received a lot of good comments while walking the streets and shopping today. )

The shirt sounds like a great father's day gift beenthere !

Which way does the hood open (front or back) ? Is it in one piece ?

My first thought was to your questions - "its a shirt, not a skirt". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a pic. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That is the hood on the 4320 - not beenthere's shirt /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif LOL !

I understand now, and it even makes sense to me now. I am slow to catch on sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe the hood is one piece and it opens to the front.

Thanks for the pics, Dave!

I like the gauges!

I am sure the fuel fill issue will be solved in the cab version...

I really think that some fuel tank and nozzle setup is the way to go anyway. (But then I already have a tank.)

As to posting your pictures in the body, isn't that why the handy shortcut to do that very thing is on the post ad form? I think they are far better there.

After digging in JDParts - I'd say one piece, and opens to the rear.... In other words, the front lifts up. the hinge is in the back...

Mike Mc ,
Looked at the new tractors the other day. The hood does indeed open to the rear. The whole unit moves up and out of the way to give total access to the engine. Works nice, but if you are hurting for head room in your shop, could be a problem.
