USAA is a very well established insurance company that used to only insure active duty and retired military personnel...until recently. Here is their qualification criteria from their home page.

USAA membership is a privilege earned by those in uniform and it's a privilege that can be handed down to their children. Membership is open to:

* Active, retired and honorably separated officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. military.
* Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
* Adult children of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.1
* Widows and widowers of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.

No, I do not work for USAA nor will I receive any commission. I have been with USAA for 24 years, their rates and service (imho) are superior.
Just passing on their new eligibility criteria...hopefully it can save some folks some money!
