Today I finally got around to checking into this. I read the above thread and I just wanted to confirm before I either paid to repair or attempted myself. here are the details, please share your thoughts.
When the tractor is not running the PTO does not turn - even using a large pair of channel locks (safely protecting the splines) it barely moves.
When the engine is running and you engage the PTO you can hear a definite change in the pitch of the engine which leads me to believe that something is engaging.
I removed the hydraulic valve, inspected for proper operation and it appears to be working as designed. Using air, when rotating the valve redirects the air from one port to the next. I did find one oring that was not installed properly on the tubes going into the case.
I redirected the fluid from the hydraulic pump into a bucket, left the valve off, and started the engine for a mere few seconds and the PTO still spins (hydraulic pressure/valve completely out of the circuit)
I assume this means that the PTO Brake must be worn out like the other thread. I just dont understand why it doesnt free spin when the engine is not running. Is that brake supposed to put that much force to where, even as hard as it is to turn, its still not enough?
