Yesterday I was moving some dirt around to make a mound a bit lower and less steep. Everything was going smoothly and I was nearly done when I decided that I needed to take a view from the top of the mound. So I stopped the tractor, lowered the bucket, put the shifters into neutral position, reduced the RPM to lowest possible setting, and set the brake. Of course, I've gone thru the same process innumerable times. But this time when I raised my rear off the seat, the engine shut down. "No problem," I thought.
So after viewing my handiwork and seeing a few spots that needed a bit more sculpting, I climbed back on the tractor, put on my seatbelt, turned the key partway to warm up the glow plugs, waited for the light to go out, turned the key to start it ... NOTHING HAPPENED. So my initial thought was wrong ... there IS a problem.
So where do I look first? (The on-line "yellow pages" will be the second or third place that I look.)
At first I suspected the seat switch, but then it seems to me that it wouldn't have been running in the first place. I suspect that a safety switch somewhere is telling the tractor that it shouldn't start/run because it's in gear ... does that make sense?
How do I figure out if it's the "in gear" safety switch?
Where else should I look and what else should I consider?
FWIW, the battery is brand new and is fully charged.
Thanks for any help!
