I got my tractor back from my service center. 1200 hours service. Runs great. However, when the pressure in the transmission builds up I am no longer able to push the peddle down on the hydro-static transmission. This has never happened before. I check the fluid level and it is a about 1/4 inch over the upped fill line. Called my service guy and he said everything was check out and that the trans had been filled with goldenwest J20C. I have never used J20C so needless to say I am concerned... He assured me this was compatible with this trans..

Is this the incorrect fluid?
Is the fact that it is over filled the issue?

Concerned...

I don't see anything wrong with the GoldenWest J20C.

GoldenWest Premium Tractor Fluid

Also, 1/4" overfull is not an issue. That should have no effect whatsoever. Tractor fluid levels vary depending on if a FEL or BH is installed and whether their hydraulic cylinders are extended or retracted. 1/4" is nothing to worry about whatsoever.

From what you are saying, your pedal and transmission work normally until you get the tractor under load. Then, the pedal gets stiff and hard to operate. Essentially, when the HST builds up back pressure the pedal cannot move the swashplate. Is that correct? Do the other hydraulics work fine? Did your shop also change your HST filter or only the main hydraulic filter? If they changed the HST filter, did they use a NH filter? If they did not use a NH filter, there's a good chance the HST filter is restricting flow. I don't think your problem is the type of fluid or the 1/4" overfull, but it certainly might be filters.

One other thing, you don't have cruise control on do you? That could cause the pedal to be stiff.

I have seen instances where a filter was a little loose and sucking air. This would cause "hard" pedal issues. I'd suggest pulling the dipstick on your driveline as soon as this problem shows up. Look at the fluid to see if it has a "milky" appearance and lots of tiny bubbles, indicating air in your hydraulic system.
