Has anyone had a problem with a New Holland rear spline popping out of gear or the levers that engage the mower deck popping out of position by themselves. What may I be looking for? Could this be a simpler repair before I consider this a differential problem?

If you're referring to the PTO, then yes, these tractors do indeed have a history of gear failure causing the PTO to pop out under load. It's usually caused by engaging the PTO too quickly after pushing the clutch pedal down(or not pushing it down at all) and not letting the rotating parts come to a stop before engagement. It will damage both the driving and the driven gears, eventually to the point where it will jump out with little or no load. The gears in question are located at the very back of the tractor and can be accessed by removing the three point lift housing.
