New Holland / Shibaura 1925 starter

Hi folks, I pop in here now and then when my stuff is broken. I appreciate the information shared. My starter has gone bad twice in a couple years. The pinion gear in this case is slipping. Solenoid is good. Are there differences between the models? I see two different variations on Amazon. Is there a sure fire way to get one that is high quality? I don't mind spending a little more money. What I do mind is that deja vu feeling when I go changing this thing out.

PS - also, anyone have suggestions on how to repair the nuts that are supposed to be embedded in those plastic side panels? I tried epoxy and that didn't work.

The Bendix spring went on my old Mitsubishi starter. The Bendix is not repairable but a local starter and alternator shop located a complete new starter WITH Bendix for about $75 more than just the Bendix. Try taking your starter to a regular repair shop. It may surprise you what the owner can cross it to. You also get to see it and compare it before you buy. My new starter, by the way, is not Chinese. It was made in Mexico.

Thanks. $69, $95 and $159. The last one I took to a shop (a very good shop) and they told me it wasn't repairable. These are guys that rewired a starter to 12v for an old Ferguson TO20 conversion. Maybe I need to find one of those Mexican made starters.
