I went to test drive a TN4030 at a local New Holland dealer yesterday and found out that they are picking up Mahindra as a second brand to sell for CUTS.

I'm thrilled to hear this because the lesser known brands like Kioti and Mahindra have not gotten much traction around here. Most dealers are small less established shops. We have a very good Kioti dealer around here but he is the only real good Kioti dealer I'm aware of.

For these brands to be a legitimate alternative for me, they have to have a strong dealer network locally with several established dealers. I'd be more comfortable as a new buyer with an established NH dealer carrying them as a second brand.

Given my recent purchase, I'm unlikely to be in the market again for a long long time. That said, the new competition helps everyone. I think NH has made a huge mistake giving up on what was a very good line of tractors that were being supplied from Japan. They have likely forced their dealers into this position but ultimately it might work out better for us buyers.

I'll add to this. I was at a NH dealer in New Hampshire Sat. they have two locations-both very nice physical plants. they sell NH, Kubota and Hyundai at one location but at the second, they are too close to an established Kubota dealer so they solved that. A week ago, they had nothing but NH tractors in the yard. Sat, they had about 20 new TYM's. Guy told me they were impressed with TYM as they are not re-branded to something else- Like LS for example. At there other location-which was their original site- they have some guyin what amounts to a garden center about 5 miles down the road all of a sudden selling LS. This place does not appear to have any sort of service facility-talk about an "easy franchise".

Yes, ever since N.H. changed from Shibaura to LS, it's been a real mess. several dealers are also going to Kioti. Kioti will have a subcompact next year that was formerly the NH sub. Kioti purchased it from Shibaura.

I agree w/ canoetrpr that a lesser brand sometimes doesn't have the dealer network and an association w/ a larger brand helps. It also llets the customer know you know the business.

We were formerly a Deere dealer and now have Kioti and are doing rather well w/ them. Good line of tractors.

Smart move for the dealer. He should sell lots of them. Mahindra is the #1 selling tractor in the world. Excellent pieces of equipment. I'd put a Mahindra tractor up against any other brand there is out there. I owned one and regret selling it.

Awesome. I hope that's true. I would love to see that old boomer scut back....but with dealer support this time.

This could bit NH in the behind, that is for sure. Good for Kioti/Bobcat though.

I remember when things were a lot different in the auto business. In the '60s, if you wanted a Chevy, you went to the Chevy dealer. If you wanted a Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac or Cadillac, you went to a dealer that sold only those brands. Now, all GM brands are sold at the same location and they may also sell Hyundais or Kias at the same dealership. Right up the road from me is a Ford/Dodge-Chrysler/Jeep dealer. That would have been unheard of in the '60s.

I think Mahindra saw an opportunity to grow their brand and establish a much larger dealer network by filling in a gap in the delivery of a full line of tractors as New Holland changed suppliers. Mahindras and other brands appeared on NH dealer lots because dealers are in the business of providing the equipment needs of their customers and Mahindra and others had tractors ready to fill any gaps just at the right time. Those dealers who are strong enough to survive may even have more brands added to their inventories in the future. Economics sometimes makes for strange bed-fellows.;)

It's been a great thing for Mahindra, and probably for Kioti and TYM as well. Most NH dealers are mature dealerships with established parts, service and sales departments and a good customer base. We welcome these great dealers and hope they can continue to do well with NH and Mahindra as well.
