New Holland 74csr snowthrower

Hi folks- I have the chance to get a New Holland 74csr snow thrower that has not been used much or at all for $3000. Good price? Manual rotator.

-Are these good snowthrowers? I wont use it much, but when needed it needs to work.

-I will operate it with a Kubota L3430GST, 28hp at the PTO. Enough guts for a 6 foot wide thrower?

Its a cat1 rear attachment type, with manual chute rotator. But chute deflector appears to be hydraulic. Can that operate off the hydraulic circuit for the backhoe?

I would not buy it unless your new mule is equipped with a turbocharger; other wise you should step up to the next horsepower class of mule as it could end up being nothing but a boat anchor.

You need torque and to have "enough" torque; not just torque" "you must have enough horsepower
to maintain that torque with reserve horsepower" at the 540 RPM PTO engine speed.

Hydrostatic transmissions invite being overdriven and that will always cause problems UNLESS cruise control available on the mule and is used by the operator.

Investing in a new 60 inch snow blower and adding 6 inch wings to both sides will gain you the same clearing width and you will have an implement with a warranty when you buy it.

What ever you do use a lot of fluid film to coat everything that contacts snow in at least three coats letting it dry between coats and you will be able to double your casting distance.

I want to help you, I wanted to make sure you went into this with your eyes open
as snow removal is nasty business especially when the bloody things do not work or become
bogged down and plug from heavy wet snow.

I'll let other "experts" tell you about your snow and what will work best for you. I doubt you have much heavy WET snow in California, but I'm not an expert in worldwide snow types and my crystal ball stopped working.
