I purchased a 65 baler in pieces and have all of it re-assembled but the feeder chain that runs along side the plunger. Does anyone know how this chain attaches and is timed?

If you could post the link here or just the web address that would be helpful

yours is a whole different feeder assembly but the principal is the same, the feeder tines should push hay into the chamber when the plunger is retracted and get out of the way before the plunger hits them. try it by hand a couple of times before you put a tractor on it. Also make sure the plunger stop is working so you don't break needles. Take pictures and post back if you have questions.

First you need a book. Full timing settings are covered in the NH book. Best $15 - $20 you can spend.

But to answer your question the feeder carriage is set so that the tip of the leading fork is 7" from the plunger knife with plunger in home position (i.e. the pitman on the main gearbox crank pointing straight up in the air) as the standard position. From here the carriage timing can be altered a slight bit in either direction to help make even bales if need be if uneven bales are a problem. Again this is all covered in the book and it will tell you which way to move the carriage to put more hay on one side or the other.

As for the other chain that runs alongside the plunger there is a special link assembly that the #50 chain connects to and uses 2 Screws as a shear bolts. Parts catalog is available online for free viewing with pic diagrams.

Thanks for the help! I reset the feeder 7" off the plunger and it appears to be perfect. My field is cut now and will post some pictures in a few days after testing it out.

did you turn it over by hand including tripping the knotter, easy test before putting the hp to it. Good luck, looking forward to the pics.
