Only raise the pickup for transport.
I'm baling in turns, pto has to stay running until you tie and drop the bale.

Here is a picture off the net.

The chains on either side of mine are missing. I think they are just for transport anyway. I'll see if my tires wheel adjust down as they are all the way up on my baler.

That photo is correct. I leave mine set in the same place all the time, just so the pickup wheel barely touches the ground. If you run pickup too low, I find it plugs baler plus is harder on tines as the pickup slip clutch will kick out....then plug the baler....

As long as the pulley is there you can make the chain and cable up with basic hardware store chain, cable and cable clamps. I've had to replace the cable on mine.
