New Holland 545 questions...

Don't know too much about the New Holland 545D. Casually looking at a 2002 in decent shape. I've read everything regarding this particular tractor that has been posted on the forum, but still looking for some answers. I know its a "industrial" tractor, therefore I'm sure it would be a terrific personal landscaping machine. I have 40 acres that I need to maintain. How good of a haying/mowing/field tractor would it be? I need something that would be good for traditional farming as well as landscaping...light timber clearing etc. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

The 545D tractors are a true horse. No tractor today compares to those Ford industrials. They will last forever. I have driven a few of them and a more manly tractor is difficult to find. I literally found myself laughing out loud when I last ran one. The big Ford three-cylinder drowned out my laughter so I didn't sound silly.

Downsides are that the Ford industrials are that they are heavy and not very nimble. The loader is fully-integrated so it is built like a battleship...which is also a downside since the loader is always on it. For this reason, I would not recommend them for haying and mowing due to the weight and relatively limited number of gears with some models. Some models can come close to 10K!

I lust after the 545D tractors, especially the later models when the engine was turbocharged for emissions reasons. A better landclearing tractor would be hard to come by due to the loader lift capacity (5,000-lbs.!) and the stump-pulling torque converter transmission, if so equipped.
