Have a 1997ish Ford New Holland loader tractor with ps that gets hard to steer when loading anything more than a couple hundred pounds in the bucket. Have read through a limited number of posts regarding similar issues but nothing definite on how to identify this problem.
Tractor has 1500 hours but received minimal maintenance prior to current ownership. It runs good and operates wells, and is an HST model with NH 7108 loader. Recent service includes oil/filter change with new NH glow plugs. I used a universal oil (134 spec) in the hydro and NH filters (both).
On this machine the PS pump is a dedicated pump driven separately from the hydraulic system. There is a filter that also functions as a reservoir that I have not changed. Its over $100 and is the original but I dont think its presenting a filter issue.
I did have the steering cylinder rebuilt last fall due to a bent shaft and a dripping seal, but repaired it immediately (@ profession hydraulics shop), and used the same UTF 134 for the PS. I dont recall having any steering problems but barely put any hours on the machine before repairing the steering shaft.
Any ideas? I can pressure check the pump but need to know how/where to start. Thanks.
