New Hobart 140.. can I weld on bucket hooks?

I worked at a drilling rig factory. Ended up being the lead over the sub structures. 40 million dollar rigs and we turned one out each week. Flex4S+ for H&P International Drillers. I didn't have to do much welding but I had to stay on top of the welders. My job was to put everything together. I had to mark what and how much weld and make sure they did right. It was all 100% seal welded. I built derricks for a while when we were ahead on sub structures. I worked 7 12 for a couple years.

Hobart 140? Sure. Flap disk where you plan to weld, using .30 wire set amps at 110-120 dial in your feed speed and have at it!

Use weldable hooks available from just about anywhere and a heavy magnet to hold the hooks at 90.

Yes on the welder. Near max for that welder, duty cycle and technique.
Prep is your friend.
Practice always helpful.
Good skills and confidence building project.

I have found a 7018 AC that runs pretty well on my old Fleetweld 300. It does take a bit of practice and it's too easy to have the heat set too high...I have had to repair a few burn holes on a couple projects.

LD1 asked me some time ago when I was going to weld some hooks on my Kioti bucket. I haven't done it mainly because when I needed hooks I just take adavantage of the SSQA and change out the bucket to my second bucket and old Kubota bucket I converted to SSQA and it has lots of hooks on it. But...

The idea given here is STICK with 1/8 7018. Hardly a glue gun approach. Before I got into 220 v Lincoln migs, I had a Linc 135 plus. With enough experience I would weld those hooks with that machine.
