hey everybody, i recently purchased a Bison and put a good bit of time into it. i spit it and replaced the clutch and other than that i have just nickel and dimed it. it ran great until a few weeks ago. i was using my box blade on the back and it started to pop back throught he carb. not sure what the problem is, plugs are clean, timing is good, points check out, oil and water both clean... any suggestions? really need to get her running again.

I had a ford 601 that did that. After alot of looking I found a wire that went through the distributor side (hot wire)Was warn through on the underside. It only shorted out every so often when the advance would move. Its one of the reasons the guy sold it. He never could find it. Just food for thought.Check your wires not only for barred, but for a bad ground. The key switch it a common place for rust an bad contacts.

do a compression test to rule out burnt valves or other mechanical problems.recheck the timing with a timing light. the timing may be getting too advanced under load.

mit- i pulled the valve cover off and found that the #3 exhaust pushrod is not moving the rocker very far at all. i moved the rocker to the side and cranked it over to make sure it wasnt the valve holding the assembly up. i was also able to push the valve open by hand. very little movement compared to the rest of the pushrods. im guessing a collapsed lifter or wiped cam. dont know much about these motors.

sounds like you got to work on the cam. the cam is what gives you the lift.if you free up the push rod and the lift is still lesser than the others then the cam is worn.

mit- i talked with the guys at valley power and they think the same. solid lifter motor and the lifters are harder than camshaft so they assume the cam lobe is worn. thanks for your help. i guess i will be tearing the motor down this weekend! will let you guys know what i find.
